Another Fall Tag P. II

Blogoween

Are ya’ll ready for Christmas yet? I think Mall of America decorates the first week of November and I am really looking forward to it this year. There is a local restaurant that I am dying to check out, they have decorated the entire establishment in 50’s holiday kitsch and changed their menu with all kinds of retro recipes. Now, the 50’s weren’t good to the vegans but I still want to check out the decorations. I feel as though, November is really just pre-December, aren’t we all skipping past Thanksgiving and getting ready for Christmas? Maybe that’s why I feel that fall goes so fast, I skip right over November anyway 😛 This will be my last tag post for the season and then I’ll do some favorites or recipes or something.

Turtlenecks and the corduroy this year are blowing my mind! I saw the chicest pair of corduroy culottes at Zara recently and wanted them desperately but since I am 5 foot nothing, they just looked like really wide-legged pants on me.

Shelldon Regular

The same music I listen to year round, I don’t really have seasonal playlists.

Shelldon Regular

Neither, I have these headband/ear warmer things that I wear. Yes, I know that all of the heat is leaving off the top of my head up I can’t stand hats.

Relief, in the boujee suburb that I work, the residents are waging a war on geese. I won’t get into it but the methods to control the population are cruel. Then, what’s even more hilarious is that the same people complaining about the geese want the coyotes removed. Not realizing the if nature was allowed to take its course, the coyotes would pick the geese off, naturally controlling the population and wouldn’t be wandering the neighborhoods looking for food. When I see the geese leaving, I feel tremendous relief that they will survive another season without Yoga Pants Betty and Patagonia Vest Steve murdering them.

Usually but I also have to clean my oven and there is nothing I detest more than having to clean the oven. I hate the smell of oven cleaner and I’ve used various other cleaning solutions on it but they don’t work as well. It’s a disgusting job, I hate it and so I have not baked anything yet this year. Plus, the first batch of anything after you clean the oven tastes like poison.

Shelldon Regular

Soups of any kinds, roasted brussel sprouts, mac & cheese.

Shelldon Regular

Yes, any time of year. I’m reading a really good book right now about the most haunted city in the South – it’s so good.

Shelldon Regular

Probably candles but closer to Christmas, I will have both out.

Shelldon Regular

Nope, Halloween then straight to Christmas.

Shelldon Regular

So, here’s the deal – do you recall things tasting more intense when you were a child or at least up to like you turned 25? My favorite tea used to be cinnamon and cardamom, like the most intense, spicy flavor – I had a cup a couple of weeks ago and it was so weak! It was a new bag too, I’m so disappointed. Anyway, the store where I purchase my loose teas had some other fall’ish flavors and I will give them a whirl but I’m disappointed. Is this aging? Everything tastes bland so you just stop eating.

Shelldon Regular

Yes, but not the fun, plaid-wearing version. I’ve had to harvest pumpkins before and it’s a nightmare. You feel like you got hit by a truck the next day and for many days after. I prefer strolling into the grocery store and purchasing pumpkins that someone else harvested. It’s all fun and games until you have to pick 500 pumpkins.

Shelldon Regular

Pumpkin chili or pumpkin breads are my favourite.

Shelldon Regular

Karma Kream.

Shelldon Regular

Whichever one most hides the fact that my lips are chapped.

Shelldon Regular

Apple, pumpkin pie always reminds me of baby food in a crust. Gag.

And all at once, summer collapsed into fall. – Oscar Wilde

For me, fall has always happened in an instant when you step outside and the air isn’t thick and stagnant anymore, the birds are quiet, you feel a collective urgency as all the creatures start preparing for winter – it’s like someone snapped a finger and it’s finally fall.

That’s it – I hope you enjoyed, what fall things have you been up to recently? And be honest, are you already preparing for Christmas 😛

That Time I Got a Mullet

Blogoween

This is mostly meant to be humorous except for this next part 😛 Had anyone told me that Minnesota has been staunchly democrat since 1976 – I would have called bullshit. Never, have I ever met such tightly laced, conservative liberals in my entire life. Now, I am from Colorado where most of the population is liberal so maybe my point of view is a bit skewed. Regardless, the whole Minnesota nice thing is complete bullshit, the state motto should be, Where the Elite Meet Sleet. And because they feel guilty for being elitists, they vote progressive. Why do I live in Minnesota? I have no fucking idea, I moved here for college and the thought of a cross country move is now exhausting to my nearly middle-aged self.

IMG_20191016_112830

Now to that time I got a mullet which was this past Friday night. My fascination with the mullet goes back to at least second grade when, the year was 1992 and Billy Rae Cyrus had a bitching mullet. I had long, long flowing hair because my mother was a puritanical Catholic who didn’t let the daughters cut their hair and it was mostly a nightmare. Had my mother allowed me to have a mullet in second grade, it would have been the most amazing mullet ever, I would have gotten it out of my system and who would fault a second grader with a mullet? Fucking nobody. Who faults a 32 year old lady with a mullet? Fucking everybody. Since living on my own, I have taken many opportunities to cut my hair however the fuck I want and that includes a pixie cut, lady mullet, a shag, emo bangs – I have never committed to the perm because it does seem really damaging but maybe when I’m 80. So, my hairdresser asks me what I want to do and I said, I dunno. She mentions that modern, wearable mullets are coming back – and I’m like, well fuck me up. I’m thinking Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Blondie – not so much the Billy Rae mullet (that I was cheated out of as a child) and she delivered. Am I cool enough for said cut? Most definitely not, do I still really like it, totally. Is most everyone else appalled? Absolutely. Like maybe people don’t think that I am aware of the fact that I have a mullet. People, I am fully aware. I’m welding on the weekends, this is my new aesthetic. Also, I’m not walking around judging everyone’s shitty, WASP haircuts and I would appreciate a little respect or at least not being stared at. Is that so much to ask?!

So to everyone in my life who is wondering, does she know that’s a mullet. Yes, it’s a fucking mullet, I know. I’m sorry the liberal hicks in Minnesota can’t handle it which is ironic since is there anything more hick than a mullet?!

What’s in My (Modcloth) Bag

Blogoween

I haven’t purchased a single item of new clothing in over a year! I have picked up a few items used but I don’t think I have done too shabby in being choosier with clothing. It hasn’t been difficult since I hate shopping for new clothes anyway but I have walked away from a few cute pieces that resulted in major FOMO. I actually do need some cool weather clothing and have a huge discount coupon from Modcloth to use. I’ve been curating my order for over a week, it’s getting a little ridiculous and I think it’s time to check out. If you’ve never shopped at Modcloth, it used to be an online-indie boutique that offered tons of different, offbeat designs from a variety of labels. Now, they are owned by Jet.com – yup, owned by Wal-Mart. I don’t love that they are owned by a store that I refuse to shop at. I don’t feel that the quality (for better or worse) or cost of the items has changed, I can still find all of my favourite labels there but I wish they were owned by anyone but Wal-Mart. Even before this, an issue that I’ve always had with Modcloth is that the quality doesn’t always match the price. I’ve purchased some shockingly cheap-feeling items, since they are primarily an online retailer, it’s a gamble but I’ve never had an issue returning items. So anyway, here’s what’s in my bag!

Pam Breeze-ly Long Sleeve Tunic – I love these tops and they come in a ton of colors. They are perfect with leggings, tucked into a skirt, with jeans – super easy to wear and so flattering. I have my eye on the olive and black.

Palpable Perks Knit Top – I have this top in the navy, I really like it and am surprised at the poor reviews! It’s a basic top with a touch of flare from the cute bow-tie embellishment. I tend to wear a cardigan or blazer over it as the fabric is on the lighter side but overall very comfortable. I’m picking up the basic black, shocking 😛

Ready to Ruffle Knit Top – The texture of this one looks totally adorable and I like the ruffled neck line. I’m torn between the tan or the green, I will probably go tan since I don’t own anything this color.

Admired Archivist Knit Top – I feel like I’m purchasing a lot of basic tops but most of my work tops are a little worse for wear (thank you, natural deodorant).

Spotted in Dots Mid Skirt

Oh, Hello Polka Dot A Line Skirt

Just This Sway A Line Skirt

S3

All or Nothing Pleated Midi Skirt

S4

Print Appeal A Line Dress – I have a weak spot for critter patterns such as this, more of my clothing is embellished with raccoons, dogs, elephants, cats, bats, etc than not.

T6

Crazy for you Leopard Cardigan – I mean, what can’t I wear this with?!

T7

I think I’ve made some solid choices, many of these items can be worn in winter as well. I’ll report back on what I think of everything, like I said, it’s always a bit of a gamble. Let me know if you’ve shopped at Modcloth before and what you thought!

Target Dollar Spot Fall Finds

Blogoween, Life

Ah, the Target Dollar Spot, it’s definitely a love/hate thing for me. It’s a collection of things one absolutely does not need at prices that definitely don’t scream quality and yet, I always find something to purchase once the fall decor hits the shelves. I was all around impressed with the selection this time, everything was picked over last year by mid-September. I picked up a few things that I knew I could use for numerous occasions.

They had a couple different styles and shades of gourds this year. I think these little pieces are well worth a buck and can be used after Halloween for fall decor.

It seems that they always have fabric pumpkins, this year they had these little sequin beauties. The wire, spider web bowl was $3 and perfect for spooky centerpiece.

Lastly, I chose two of these black cat, wooden ornaments. They were $1 each and matched the black/gold theme I had inadvertently going.

It’s funny how quick you can run through $20 on this stuff 😂 Is your Target stocked for Halloween? I feel as though retailers stock seasonal items so early nowadays that it’s all picked over too soon! Let me know what goodies you’re on the hunt for.

Best of May

Monthly Favorites

I can’t believe it’s June, spring sprung seemingly overnight after weeks of cool, rainy weather. I love the rainy weather but it’s nice to see the sun shining and we’re well on our way to Halloween 👻 My deck is almost summer ready, I spent too much time and money in IKEA last weekend. I had this fantastic idea to change my master bathroom from beige to white because I love hotel bathrooms. Clean ones, that is with white towels and that subtle bleach scent. What I didn’t realize is that they get cleaned everyday, I’m pretty clean but it’s misery so far 😂 I’ll post about my deck decor sooner than later. Anyway, here are some items that I was loving in May.

For the last year I’ve been trying to switch to natural deodorant, most of them have given me a rash. I picked this up recently and love it so far. It has a light, floral scent – not too rosy but just pleasant enough. The consistency is on the wet side but very moisturizing and dries down to nothing. It’s made my armpits so soft and cleared up the rash in no time. It’s on the expensive side but all of these natural deodorants are.

My skin tends to get congested as soon as the weather starts to heat up, this is a seasonal favorite since it dries my skin out too much during the winter. It’s a mild acid that keeps my back and chest clear. It smells funky like fermented fruit but it works and it’s pretty affordable.

This is one of those blue light therapy devices. It’s supposed to help kill bacteria and I could be nuts but I think it’s working. I had to stop taking oral contraceptive due to starting another medication so I’m getting some hormonal spots but I swear this is knocking them out. My skin is almost back to where it was before my change in meds. I use it for about 15 minutes each night, focusing on different quadrants. I like it because I’m not adding another chemical to my routine. I purchased this from my dermatologist but Amazon sells the exact same one.

Nature’s Bounty recently released a line of skin vitamins, I picked up this one and the moisture one. I really think that my overall skin feels firmer and smoother. I’m also trying the moisture one but can’t say that my skin feels any less dry than usual.

One day, whilst feeling sorry for myself, I ordered a bunch of Charlotte Tilbury because no brand makes me feel prettier 😝 These are the daily go-tos so far. The Peachgasm is this glowy, liquid blush that’s perfect for making pasty skin look flushed and glowy. The cream shadows in Rose Gold and Star Gold are easy to smudge on and go. Her entire summer collection is stunning.

And because I’m a total blush whore, this peachy Burt’s Bees blush has been my ‘bronzer’ of late. I like a bronzer that’s on the redder side because it looks more natural for me to be a bit burnt than actually tanned 😂 I love this formula, not terribly pigmented but easy to build and blend.

I cannot get enough true crime as of late! Yes, I purchased some books but I’m on the hunt for an e-reader. I’m also hooked on the My Favorite Murder podcast and Buzzeed Unsolved: True Crime series on YouTube. I thought the Netflix Ted Bundy movie was pleasantly tame while still being super creepy. Finally, I cannot wait for Stranger Things season three and recently binged the first two seasons. What have you been loving recently?

These goslings were also a fave this month, look at how fat they are! There are spring babies all over the place, it’s lovely. Let me know what you’ve been up to!

It’s the Little Things

Life

Ahhhh, I feel like I am becoming one of those pathetic people who just moan about everything. When really, I don’t have a lot to complain about in life, I’m a generally a content person honestly. I think this will be one of very few for instances that I mention this, I don’t want sympathy – I feel sorry enough for myself already (kidding) but I did want to share where I’ve been.

I mentioned in a few blogs back before my absence that I was being screened for MS, again because I’ve been having some issues. I had an MRI and full screening 10’ish years ago but MS was ruled out, this time around, I wasn’t so lucky. I’m disappointed but not surprised, there’s been too many little things adding up over time and I just had this sinking feeling. 10 years ago, I thought my doctor was nuts but this time I knew. MS is a disease that is seemingly different for everyone who has it or so I can tell. It’s a disease that impacts the central nervous system and disrupts the communication between your brain and muscles. For me it’s cloudy vision when I get tired, always being tired, holding a cup of coffee one minute and then dumping it all over myself the next, not being able to grip my steering wheel, crying when my tire pressure warning comes on because I know I can’t get those stupid little valve covers off by myself. It’s anger and resentment and what the fuck is karma because I feel like I am a pretty good person who just got served the biggest shit sandwich of her lifetime. It’s a lot of unknowns at this point, will it get worse or could this be the worst that my symptoms get? It’s knowing that I could do everything exactly right to treat it and still get fucked. For now, I am trying some acupuncture and am on a beta interferon which is supposed to reduce symptoms. I’m lucky in that I don’t have any pain, I experience numbness and weakness more than anything.

At this point, I am just going to keep on living my life and try not to cry over spilt milk (literally since I’m spilling everything at this point). I’m not going to start joining advocacy groups or running 5k’s to raise awareness, because I am selfish and a little vain and don’t really want people in my life to perceive me as being different. I’m not going to share much about it, I don’t think that would be helpful because for the last month I have been reading everything I can on the disease and not getting any answers. Like I said, it’s so different for each person, there’s just no way of knowing what to expect.

Two sad, whiny blogs to get back into blogging 😛 I plan to get back to some regularly scheduled content sooner than later.

Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous

Random

Shout out to all of 90’s kids who thought they were punk but were really just wearing too much black eyeliner 😛 I had another post planned for today but am lacking photos and will save it for later in the week. In case you missed it, Kourtney Kardashian’s most recent brainchild Poosh launched yesterday and I am simply baffled. In fairness, Kourtney is my favorite Kardashian (don’t act like you don’t have one) and I am guilty of following the family on some level so of course I had to check it out. It’s just what you’d think; bright white, shiny, gorgeous photos of spacious rooms and stunning decor, pretentious recipes, DIY beauty that only works if you are already stunning and eerily reminiscent of Into the Gloss…Goop…literally any other lifestyle website you can think of…Oh, and it’s also everything I’d like my wesbite to be because obviously this shit sells. First off, you need a completely meaningless name that’s annoying to pronounce but inexplicably unforgettable, I call dibs on Schlep. Then you just need a bathroom the size of a large studio apartment, Beyonce’s makeup artist, a dozen staff writers, camera crew, a closet stocked with designer brands and the whole being gorgeous, rich and/or famous thing certainly will not hurt your cause. The whole idea of putting these ultra-decadent, mostly unattainable lifestyles on blast generally just irks me and yet, I can’t look away. None of the content adds any real value to my life unless of course, I am looking for an $800 sundress or wondering what Emma Watson’s skincare routine is or I have a hankering to become a spiritual herbalist (whatever the fuck that is). That sundress won’t make me look like Gwynnie and in fact, no product mentioned or sold on these sites will transform me into the lifestyle goddess that I so desire to be. When I peruse these sites and take in the perfectly choreographed candid photos I can’t imagine that it’s real, nobody lives like this and that’s just what these sites are for me – a fantasy, an escape from the daily schlep. I find them more fascinating somehow because of how foreign they are to me and probably most normal people.

POOSH

GOOP

ITG

Honestly though, do they all have the same web designer?! Anyway, if you were just dying to know what a day in the life of Kourt looks like, head on over but be prepared to not have your life enriched in any way 😛 If you haven’t got sucked into the whole lifestyle site, I recommend Into the Gloss as they are the OG, the content is pretty varied and not completely asinine. Let me know your thoughts on these types of sites, why do people care (myself included)? Also, let me know your thoughts on Schlep, I think it could work 😛
