Another Black Friday Come & Gone

Blogmas

But first, a comical story πŸ˜› ULTA has recently brought in a lot of amazing brands, Hourglass?! Are you kidding me?! I work a lot in display setting & it’s so much fun being able to set a fresh, new display packed with goodies. There’s something really satisfying about making testers, I love cleaning them too – it’s just one of those mindless, repetitive tasks that is very calming for some reason. This past weekend, we’re unloading truck & we received a ton of fur products which sounded vaguely familiar. We’re looking at the products trying to figure out what they are when one of the gals blurts out, Oh, it’s bush oil. Dead. Then for some reason, of all the things, that made me recall Emma Watson raving about Fur Oil in an article that I had read some time ago. We’re all losing it at this point & it was just hysterically absurd that any of us would care about Emma Watson’s product recommendations for anything let alone bush oil. We didn’t receive a full display so thank goodness we couldn’t get anything onto the floor because I would not have been able to hold it together if someone had purchased said oil. Also, I think you can use the oil anywhere if you’re curious πŸ˜›

I had last week off as I mentioned but ended up working almost the entire week at ULTA because we had (have) so many out with COVID. Many of them were able to come back just in time for Black Friday so – yay but also, I am wondering how many of us picked it up over the weekend. In all honesty, I was shocked at how many people were out shopping at the stores around us & at our store. For some reason I thought that retailers running the same deal a week ahead of time paired with loads of online only deals would equal smaller crowds on Friday/Saturday. Clearly, my math skills were no match for some people’s complete lack of common sense. It was a hot, sweaty, busy day & now thankfully, it’s done so everyone can actually stay home like they were told to. I have to say that most people were actually quite pleasant & it was just more so overwhelming to see crowds that we haven’t been seeing for almost a year now. Working the holidays in retail is so much fun (usually) & it felt a little bit like a normal day.

It’s funny, I never recall my parents mentioning anything about Black Friday growing up, maybe I just wasn’t paying attention but I never knew when they went gift shopping. My siblings would have been old enough for Cabbage Patch kids during that whole mania but I don’t know what hot gifts there are this year. Let me know what you were jonesing for.

I did some Black Friday shopping, all online and I plan to share some of the items for a Blogmas post. Unfortunately, my cellphone decided to shit out & I had to splurge on a new one which I was not planning for at all as my current phone was in perfect working order only a week ago. Honestly, if I didn’t need a smartphone for work then I would be perfectly content with an old flip phone. Aside from something that I wasn’t excited to purchase in the least, I did get myself some beauty bits πŸ™‚ Stay tuned if that’s your thing.

That being said, tomorrow kicks off the first day of Blogmas & I am tremendously excited to share some festive content. If you are also participating in Blogmas, please let me know so that I can be sure to check out your posts!! Did you go any Black Friday shopping? I’m curious to know what others experienced on this grandest of all shopping days πŸ˜› Thanks for stopping by, stay healthy out there!

Blogtober Day 18: Cold Weather Body Care

Blogtober

The seasons have changed, fall might be over already. We had a very crisp high of 32 degrees today & are looking at 4-inches of snow this Tuesday. I know that Halloween is a toss up on whether or not we’re still having mild weather or a foot of snow on the ground but I’m not sure I’m ready! Good thing I work from home on Tuesdays because I cannot with these city slickers driving on bad roads. The air has been dry for awhile now which is torture for my already dry, eczema prone skin & I’ve already switched my body care routine. I’m trying some new things this year that are more luxurious than my usual Cerave & am really pleased with the results so far!

Shea Moisture is an awesome brand and has been for awhile. They were some of the first to offer products specifically for curly, coily, kinky natural hair. All of their ingredients are ethically sourced, fair trade & they are cruelty free. Over the years, they’ve expanded to body & skin care – I have been using their coconut oil line & am obsessed. Here’s my routine for soft, clear skin!

Cleanse & Exfoliate: to start, I’ve been using the Daily Hydration Body Wash that is absolutely delicious. It’s sudsy, smells amazing & cleans my skin without making it feel dry or tight. I haven’t had any issues with breakouts or skin flare ups since switching which is rare for my overly sensitive skin. It leaves my skin sweetly scented & nourished.

Next, as unpleasant as exfoliating dry skin sounds, I find that regularly sloughing off the dead skin really improves the overall appearance of my skin. The Daily Hydration Creme Sugar Scrub is just the right amount of grittiness & since it’s sugar, it just dissolves as you work it in. It’s a very hydrating body scrub, I use it all over & it makes my skin sparkle.

Moisturize: I have severely dry skin, I use an oil on particularly dry areas & then seal it in with an occlusive moisturizer. Shea Moisture offers a few lightweight, nourishing body oils but of course I went for the coconut. I have to mention that the coconut line smells like real coconut, very nutty & not that synthetic coconut that some might expect. Everything smells great but it might be a bit different than what some might be anticipating. Generally, a palm full is plenty for the areas I need extra moisture. I then work the Daily Hydration Body Lotion in all over my body. This stuff is thick, I don’t love the packaging & think it would work better in a tub. I put the bottle on my shower floor so the hot water can soften it up then it’s a bit easier to dispense. It doesn’t take terribly long to work in given the thick consistency & doesn’t feel greasy. This lotion keeps my skin comfortably hydrated all day & then some.

Shea Moisture can be purchased at ULTA, Target & on their website! They’re products are affordable & high quality. I cannot recommend them enough if you’re looking for something new.

Let me know what you’re go-to winter skin picks are. Have you tried anything from Shea Moisture? Thanks for stopping by πŸ§‘πŸ–€

Orly Color Pass: Desert Muse

Life & Style

After many, many years of having my nails done in a salon, I have switched to doing my own nails at home. I can’t say that I am afraid of going to the salon, I would have loved to have been there the first day that my salon was allowed to open but the owners made the decision to close permanently about halfway through the Stay at Home Order. They sent cards in the mail to all of the regulars and it was really sad, I will miss my nail tech and the gals who worked there. They were all so nice & I just don’t have the desire to find a new salon. I’m not picky about my nails but also never had a bad manicure from my gal so I don’t know how easy it would be for me to find another salon.

Anyway, after 10 or more years of acrylics, my nails were wrecked. I had some photos but must have deleted them πŸ˜€ They were so thin & brittle, they had these folds in them from what I am guessing was the acrylic basically shrink wrapping them for so long. It took almost 10 weeks to just get the bumps and lumps to grow out, they kept breaking & snagging – it was a ride. Finally, we made it to a point where I could paint them and not have them look terrifying.

I wish that I had the before picture because these little nubs would look a lot more impressive πŸ˜› Anyway, so of course I have been purchasing & ended up with about 6 bottles of different toned beige & like, 3 browns. Finger nail polish is not cheap so I pick colors that I know will be used so I end up having a lot of the same color. Well, then I discovered Orly Color Pass – for $36 each quarter you are sent the season’s collection. I signed up just in time to receive their Desert Muse box and it’s a wonderful variety of fall tones with a good mix of nudes and colors.

L to R: Midnight Oasis, Sage Brush, Roam With Me, Canyon Clay, Red Rock, Wild Abandon

In the box I also received a cuticle pusher and matte top coat, plus these cute little stickers. I’m pleased with every shade in the box but the ones that really caught my were Canyon Clay (a dark burnt sienna), Red Rock (brown red) and Roam With Me (pinky nude). So far I have only used Red Rock and Sage Brush & they are both very lovely:

First, I am not the best at painting my own nails πŸ˜› Orly has quickly become my go to brand though because they have these big, rubber caps that are much easier to grip than what other brands offer. The brushes are also wide enough that I can get the nail totally covered with just two passes. I love this shade, it reminds me of the red clay that can be found in Colorado and of course, Red Rock Amphitheater where I saw many a good show. This is just one coat and one clear coat because I don’t have the patience to let numerous coats dry.

This is Sage Brush, it looks much more green in this lighting than it actually is. This is two coats two coats of color, no top coat. I just tried this on a whim, it’s pretty but not one that I would reach for on the regular. I think that’s the fun thing about this box though, I will use all of the shades now that I have them but wouldn’t have necessarily picked them on my own.

I really like this box so far! I miss the salon experience but definitely don’t miss the price tag and in comparison, 6 polishes for $6 each is a total deal when these retail for $10-10.50 each. All of these shades are perfect for fall, I am looking forward to using all of them! The next box is the holiday box & I will try to do swatches of each, I will post pics of the other shades in future blogs as I use them. Are you going back to the salon or are there things that you are skipping in this new normal? Let me know what you’re fave polishes are – I swear there are a million different ones now πŸ–€

Trash Talk & Some Products I’m Getting Rid Of

Clean Beauty, Random

Another beautiful spring day, we’ve really been treated to fantastic weather lately. I’ve been enjoying the deck a lot, getting my urban garden off the ground – update to come. I don’t know if nature is just thriving with humans being in lockdown but has anyone else noticed some monster bees where they are? I appreciate the bees but I’m also allergic to them & they just seem massive this year. I’m excited that they are interested in my plants though, I hope this means that my garden will be a success. I’m still cleaning, organizing & reorganizing because what else is there to do?! I’ve got just a handful of empties & a few things I’m tossing because I don’t like them.

Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream – There’s still a good blob to use up but almost there. I hate that I love this stuff but there are few creams this rich that don’t feel greasy. It smells like summer but in a refined, sultry way. I’m not repurchasing as it does seem overpriced & I have a LUSH body cream that I need to use up.

Pyunkang Yul Acne Patches – these were pretty good, I like how thin they were. Not terribly expensive & very effective at helping treat red spots.

CeraVe Eye Repair Cream – I like this stuff a lot & almost always have some on hand. It’s a simple cream that just hydrates but I think that ensuring the undereye area is properly hydrated can help with the appearance of fine lines and dark circles. It’s not very expensive but is decently effective.

Tula Eye Renewal Serum – I wasn’t crazy about this product. I like the consistency but I didn’t notice any change to the puffiness of my undereyes. I also think that it irritated my skin a bit. It’s overpriced at $52 for .5 ounces, especially as it did nothing for me.

Peach & Lily Glass Skin Refining Serum – I felt like there was a good reason that I never bought into the hype around this product. This is a deluxe sample & there’s nothing special about this serum. I’m about halfway done with it, I haven’t noticed any changes in my skin texture. It feels nice but so does plain hyaluronic acid.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation – I’ve fallen out of love with this brand almost completely. I’ve used a lot of her products & while they’re good, I just don’t think that they’re magic or worth the price tag. I think you need to have really good skin & attractive features already to use her products successfully. Which makes sense as she is a celebrity makeup artist. This foundation is just a caky, clumpy, pore accentuating mess. I do enjoy the Magic Cream but the makeup just isn’t for me.

Good Molecules Priming Moisturizer – Actually a nice, lightweight moisturizer that does prep the skin for makeup but it broke me out! It’s almost 3/4 full & I’d love to pass it on but think those days are over in light of Corona.

Some keepers, some duds but they all can’t be winners. I hope you’re having a beautiful day & just doing the best you can πŸ’›

Saturday Vibes: Feeling Completely Unmotivated

Life, Random

It’s Saturday, it’s a beautiful sunny day & I’m completely unmotivated to do anything. I’ve cleaned everything, I’ve organized everything, I think my neighbors below me will make a complaint if I vacuum one more time. I skipped my bed time skincare routine last night (accidentally) & decided to just do it this morning and lay around all day. Then I got bored and decided to clean something, I already cleared out and organized my bathroom drawers but my makeup bag has become a bit of a monster:

IMG_20200425_132746

Clearly, a remedy to this issue would have been to buy a smaller bag but I have wanted this bag for ages, I just couldn’t drop $21 on it. I spotted this neon beauty at the drugstore around Christmas, it was on clearance for $12 and was packed with a bunch of Soap & Glory products. I gifted the products to a friend and kept this giant, gloriously neon bag for myself. It needs a good clean out though, here’s a peek at everything as well as what is staying or going.

{Avocado Creamy}

{Avocado Creamy}

Charlotte Tilbury Pressed Powder: I have to use this one up but that’s the only reason that it gets to stay in the bag. I don’t like it, it doesn’t set my makeup and makes my skin look dry.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer: Out, I can’t use these. I think they are only meant to be worn underneath the eye but the formula irritates my eyes, plus they are really old and the sponge tip applicator stinks.

MAC Soft & Gentle: This is a keeper, I’ve almost panned it anyway. I love the mineralized skin finish powders, they make the skin look so juicy and radiant but they’re powders. It’s witchcraft.

shape tape: Still my favorite concealer, even with dry skin I find that these give me the best coverage.

MISSHA BB Cream: Love this, it’s the only ‘foundation’ that I reach for during the summer. It packs a pretty good amount of coverage for a BB cream, it’s packed with SPF and blends seamlessly.

Bare Minerals foundation stick: These will stay, I have to use them up & only one of them has been opened. I purchased a ton of bare minerals foundation when it was on sale earlier this year. I paid around $10 for each of these after my discount. I like this foundation but the color isn’t a great match for me.

Honest Beauty Powder & Primer: Out, I purchased these as ULTA right before they closed and I don’t like either product. The powder is too yellow and drying, it also has a weird scent to it. The primer looks and works fine but it breaks me out.

Maybelline FitMe Loose Powder: Out, this used to be a long time fave but I find it to be too drying as of late.

MAC Powder Foundation: I should really use this up, unfortunately I bought this online and it pulls too yellow for me but it’s a great product otherwise.

TooFaced Concealer: This product did me dirty, I like the coverage and the formula but it’s so yellow! I didn’t notice until I was on a Zoom call & was shocked to see what a poor match it was. These are really old anyway so I’m tossing them out.

Coty Airspun: Out for now but it’s a good powder, I never bake with it, I take a blending eyeshadow brush and press it into areas where my foundation settles in fine lines. I wear lighter foundation in the warmer seasons and don’t have an issue with fine lines so I want be taking this extra step.

Bare Minerals BarePro Foundation: Again, I have multiples of this because it was on sale. It’s out for now but will go back to using it in the fall/winter. This is the .5 shade which is a much better match for me, the stick doesn’t come in this shade but I hope they release it soon.

{Avocado Creamy}

{Avocado Creamy}

Flower Beauty Blush Bomb: In, these are awesome.

Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm: Out but mostly because it dried up, it’s a good product but there are other liquid blushes that I would recommend first for much cheaper.

Burt’s Bees Blush: I think this is Toasted Cinnamon, I plan to use this one up. The formula is not very long wearing but the color is really nice.

Bare Minerals Highlighter: In, definitely one of my most used products as of late.

Benefit Boxes o’ Blushes: These are all in, they are my summer cocktail for faux sun-kissed skin.

{Avocado Creamy}

{Avocado Creamy}

Colourpop Mascara: Out, it’s brown and just does nothing for my lashes.

Buxom: Out, it’s expired and has been irritating my eyes. I used to love this one but it’s not as good as I recall…

Smashbox Primer: In but would not repurchase, it has a spiky brush that I always manage to stab myself in the eyes with it. I like how it primes and conditions my lashes but the brush is torture.

Smashbox Super Fan: Out, it’s dried up and again with that spiky brush. It’s a fine mascara, nothing to rave about.

Lashtopia: This is my favorite right now, it’s volumizing and lengthening plus it conditions the lashes really well. I have about 4 back ups of this one, again they were on sale earlier this year.

{Avocado Creamy}

{Avocado Creamy}

UD Primer Potion: In, this is the only eye primer that I plan to use. I think it does what an eye primer should, why do there need to be more?

Charlotte Tilbury Eyeliner: This is out, expired but it was a good eyeliner. I’ve stopped wearing eyeliner for the most part, I’ve switched it up to just darkening the lash line with powder.

ABH Eye Primer: This is too wet and has as much coverage as a concealer. I received this sample with a purchase from Beautylish, I didn’t love it.

Colourpop Coco-nuts Palette: Honestly the only eyeshadow that I’ve been using & only two shades out of the whole palette at that πŸ˜› It’s an awesome, everyday neutral palette.

{Avocado Creamy}

tatcha Serum Stick: In, I use this under my eyes and around my mouth as part of my AM skincare routine. It adds just a bit of hydration in areas that dry out over the day.

Mamonde Lip Mask: In, I use this in the same way as the serum stick if my face is feeling especially dry. It’s also nice to put a little on after washing my face in the evening if I’m not doing my nighttime routine right away.

That’s everything that was in the bag! It looks much better now and I can store it under the sink as I had intended to when I first purchased it. What’s your makeup bag like? Do you do a little bag or giant one? Have you just about cleaned & organized everything in your life as I have πŸ˜‰ I hope that you are having a beautiful day 🀍

Friday Thoughts…

Life

Fair warning, I will mostly be complaining in this post so if you are feeling down or particularly joyful – maybe skip this one πŸ™‚

Buttey Honey Regular

Not that I loved working for the weekend but Friday doesn’t feel like Friday anymore. Working from home makes almost everyday feel like Friday because pre-Corona, that would have been a Friday luxury. Since every day feels like Friday, the next day always feels like Monday. I’m in this weird Friday/Monday time warp where it’s Monday morning then Friday evening every monkey flying day. It’s exhausting.

snakes

Buttey Honey Regular

Unprecedented, novel, uncertain, tumultuous, new normal – these phrases and numerous others must be stricken from the lexicon. We get it, many of us have never experienced something like this in our lifetime, we don’t need a reminder. Also, new normal? Do we remember what the old normal was like? Aside from the pandemic, the world was pretty much a shambles. I mean, at least a plus side to the pandemic is that it’s so traumatic that it’s taking our minds off of the current events that were were current events pre-corona. I’m going to stop saying pre-corona now πŸ˜‰

Buttey Honey Regular

My place of work has started very preliminary discussions around what going back to work will look like, mostly because our shelter in place order expires on May 4 & the assumption is that some restrictions will be lifted. Plexiglass shields and temperature checkpoints are some of the precautions being discussed. All I can say is that I hope that the antibody testing becomes widely accessible because I think I already had corona.

Buttey Honey Regular

In mid-December I became extremely sick with a respiratory illness that I ended up being sent to the ER for (I needed additional testing, not admitted or anything). They didn’t know what I had, I was sent home with steroids, an inhaler, an antibiotic and saw a respiratory therapist for a month for nebulizer treatments. I was sick for weeks & had complications with lung inflammation for even longer. I have pleurisy in my right lung that causes pain when I’m running or working out still. It was chalked up to a case of pneumonia but now I’m wondering, if corona has been in the US for longer than experts knew then some of us have likely already been sick. Better believe I am getting that antibody test as soon as I can. It would be nice to know so that I can start my MS treatment again which has been stalled since mid-March and indefinitely since the medication I take is immunosuppressive.

Buttey Honey Regular

I do believe that each day that we get through is another day closer to this new normal and that makes me feel a little less anxious. I still have a job, I’m starting my urban garden and Amazon donated 250,000 euro (is that what it’s called still) to a bookstore charity. Some days I feel like everything is going to be alright & other days I feel like nothing will ever be the same. Perhaps it won’t, being a natural introvert who loves being at home, even I have felt a yearning to take a trip or wander through a mall window shopping. I cannot imagine what people who do these things on the regular are feeling. As soon as the travel bans are lifted, I’m getting my passport renewed and I’m going somewhere. I mean, maybe just to Idaho but I’m going.

I hope that you are making it through the days, stay safe wherever you are πŸ’›

Hello From the Inside: Makeup Edition

Clean Beauty

In all honesty, I don’t think that we are in a true quarantine –Β  we are under a shelter in place order that seems a bit more flexible than what other states/cities are experiencing. Is everyone following it? I dunno, on the occasions that I’ve had to go out, there are an awful lot of people out and about. Minnesota is doing relatively good but who knows what this summer will bring. Anyway, I’ve worked from home before but under much more felicitous circumstances. The corporation that I worked for was undergoing a posh remodel of our new building and we all had to move home for 6’ish months. We also didn’t have videoconferencing capability so it didn’t really matter what anyone looked like πŸ˜› This new, depressing, shockingly invasive work from home circumstance has been a bit shocking. I feel like that I not only have to worry about looking presentable but also having my home look presentable with people suddenly being able to peer into it. It’s not like they are strangers but certainly not people who I would have over to my home. No offense to them. The first week at home, I could not be bothered to get ready because it was just a shit week. My close friend lost his salon, numerous others were being furloughed or facing reductions in income and I was worried about all of the unknowns. I’m feeling a bit better and very fortunate that I still have a job to even do at home – I also feel as though making the effort to keep my routine normal helps get through the day.

Buttey Honey Regular

I don’t really typically wear primer but I accidentally grabbed thisΒ tula brighten up smoothing primer gel the last time I was in ULTA thinking it was my face cream. Since I can’t return it, I’ve just decided to start priming again. I’ve never used a primer quite like this one and it does have a learning curve. The gel texture makes it prone to pilling, I let it warm up on my finger a bit and then press it in but only in areas where I have texture. I enjoy this product but not sure that it is a repurchase since I just don’t use a lot of primers.

IMG_20200421_121803

Buttey Honey Regular

I haven’t been wearing foundation because it’s expensive and I just don’t feel the need if I’m not leaving my home. My typical weekend ‘foundation’ is just concealer too, only applied to blemishes and discolored areas and then blended with a very damp sponge. I say this because I think a damper sponge gives a better blend when using a high coverage product that isn’t applied all over the face.

Buttey Honey Regular

Then I set my base with a powder foundation, this provides a little more coverage without adding more texture. I buff in a little highlighter too for a subtle glow and a little color.

Buttey Honey Regular

I’m pale already, sitting inside all day is not helping – I can’t use dark bronzers because that would look crazy so I’ve been using the Hoola Lite just on the perimeter of my face.

IMG_20200421_121013

And that’s about it, I might just keep doing this when we go back to the office because it only takes about 15 minutes. It probably looks that way too πŸ˜› I’m certainly wearing way less makeup than I am used to but at least I feel presentable and like I’m getting ready for the day. I’ve had a harder time keeping up on my skincare routine, my skin was a mess a couple of weeks ago and I really scaled back what I was doing. It’s mostly back to where it was sans the peeling, I’ve had to reintroduce tretinoin but can’t argue with the results.

IMG_20200410_134201

What am I doing with my hair? Absolutely nothing πŸ˜› Let me know how you’ve been keeping your life ‘normal’ and what helps you through the day πŸ’›

Some Spring Sprung Favorites

Clean Beauty, Monthly Favorites

Spring is here, you know how I know? I woke up with one of my eyes swollen closed due to allergies and it’s been a delight since πŸ˜› I don’t really enjoy spring but I think it’s a bummer that everyone seemingly forgot the changing of the season with everything happening in the world. I thought I would do a good ol’ favorites post for some distraction today, enjoy πŸ’›

Peaches For Breakfast Regular

hello radiance illuminating serumI don’t know if there is a single tula product that I haven’t enjoyed. This serum is brightening, hydrating, texture improving – it’s just all around pretty great. It is a little on the spendy side even for this brand but 1-2 pumps is all you need for a glowing complexion.

IMG_20200419_104509

nude nails – I haven’t been putting anything on my nails for a bit since they are doing this weird peeling thing, probably the damage from acrylics that I am sure will grow out. Anyway, I’ve been loving nude nail polishes – not from any brand in particular but essie has the cutest little jars & the formula is decent as well.

IMG_20200419_103622

galaxy swirl beautyblenderI haven’t used an actual beautyblender in a long time, these just looked so sunny & citrusy that I couldn’t resist. The one I’m using is obviously not as pretty looking but look at those swirls. Are they worth 20 bucks? I don’t know, they do apply my foundation pretty well but it always takes some convincing to splurge on one…or two…

IMG_20200419_104520

bareminerals Endless Glow HighlighterI don’t wear highlighter in the conventional way, not since discovering MAC’s skin finish products which are pretty much just subtle highlighters. I swirl my brush in highlighter then in my finishing powder and buff it all over my face. This won’t work with all highlighters but gives an all-over glow with most of the ones that I have tried. This one is smooth, has a lovely peachy tone and doesn’t look crazy all over the face – which is key πŸ˜€ I have to say, this brand has slowly been taking over my makeup bag again and I’m not mad about it.

IMG_20200419_104536

Gucci BloomThis is probably the first new fragrance that I have tried and fallen absolutely in love with. It’s just one of those powdery, floral fragrances that I tend to go for. I love the woodsy jasmine scent and longevity, it’s really lovely.

IMG_20200330_154235

Jergens Sweet Citrus Body ButterAnything citrus has been making me feel happy lately. I think it’s the bright, clean feeling associated with it. This body butter smells like a grapefruit, wrapped in a lemon poured into a glass of fresh squeezed OJ and I love it. Not to mention, it’s super hydrating & affordable.

IMG_20200419_104831

peach & lily all in one moisture padsSome days I do the whole skincare thing, some days I wipe one of these on and that’s just good enough. I love most any K-beauty moisture pads, CosRX makes great ones as well. They are drenched in soothing, nourishing goodness and do wonders for an irritated skin barrier.

IMG_20200419_104555

Peaches For Breakfast Regular

david’s tea teas – I’ve never been a fan of loose tea but I make an exception for David’s Tea because the blends are so unique. I’ve been drinking Grapefruit Rose Starburst and Eucalyptus Mint. Both are light, fresh and perfect hot or iced.

IMG_20200419_105158

Greenlife Pots & PansNot only are these pans pretty, they’re awesome to cook with. I don’t know what makes them different than other pans but ceramic pans are clearly the superior cooking vessels. I mixed and matched the bigger teal set with a small pastel pink set to match my kitchen. These were a birthday splurge purchase back in January and I don’t regret it.

IMG_20200419_105340

sapadilla Grapefruit & BergamotSticking with the citrus theme, these cleaning products make my kitchen smell like I scrubbed it with fresh grapefruits. They are also bio-degradable, plant based and naturally fragrant. They also bust grease and keep my kitchen sparkling. Sapadilla also offers ‘fill stations’ in select grocery stores so that you don’t have to purchase a new bottle.

IMG_20200416_135053(1)

thinx pantiesSo, this purchase is a direct result of COVD-19 so thanks for finally getting me to try a period panty. Here’s the deal, I can only use sanitary napkins – I’ve tried a million tampons and they just don’t work for me. Not to get graphic but they feel like you have something crammed up there all day, same thing with those cups – can’t do it. To my horror, I walked into the drugstore to find that every sanitary napkin was gone. I don’t know why suddenly everyone is using them and preparing to have their period every single day for the next year but you can’t find sanitary napkins anywhere. I started Googling alternatives, I’ve heard of the period panty but thought they sounded gross. They aren’t though, they do have to be hand rinsed after each use which means you will need to purchase quite a few pairs to start but I like them so far. They feel like thin swimsuit material, really soft and they don’t feel like a diaper. I purchased a couple of pairs of the pee-proof panties since my size was out of stock in several styles (pictured) and they are mostly the same, I can use these on light days. I’m really happy to have finally found an eco-friendly alternative to sanitary pads. These are also FSA eligible if you have an account which took some of the sticker shock out of the initial purchase.

IMG_20200419_114904

That’s it for my spring faves – let me know what you’ve been loving lately! I hope you’re safe and healthy wherever you are. Happy spring πŸ’›

For the new year I think I am going to try a Monday, Wednesday, Friday posting schedule which, is why this post is a few days later than I had planned. In past years, I have taken Blogmas right up to the 31st but was a bit burnt out on holiday posts and called it quits on Christmas this year. I cannot believe that Christmas has come and gone, yet again – I also cannot believe that New Year’s Eve is tomorrow already! I remember the week between Christmas and my birthday seeming like it was months away, now it’s already upon us. The weather has been incredibly horrendous, we had rain on Friday that turned into an ice storm on Saturday then more rain and now about 4 inches of snow. I don’t mind the snow but the ice I can do without. I think it will be here for awhile though since temperatures are supposed to plummet this week. I have this whole week off still but was already looking to see when the next federal holiday was because…I’m tired. In fact, I’ve had two people comment on the fact that I look tired recently and I’m like bitch, this is just my face at this point. Anyway, I had quite a few beauty favorites this month and here they are!

There was a time when I exclusively used Bare Minerals products but I couldn’t tell you what they’ve released over the last decade or so. I stopped wearing mineral foundation but when I decided to switch back to it, I was surprised at all of the new complexion products they had to offer. I decided to try their new stick foundation instead and am really glad I did, it’s a very light formula for a stick foundation with just the right amount of coverage. It claims to be hydrating and it does feel really good on the skin but it’s also long wearing. They really nailed it with this product although, I am miffed that they convinced everyone that liquid foundation was poison and then are selling that shit back to us. Well played.

Next is a total impulse purchase that I snagged while in the Bare Minerals section. In my defense, it was in a two pack and it was 40% off. Their Lashtopia Mineral-Based Mascara is pretty awesome, it is volumizing and a deep matte black. It plumps up my lashes but leaves them so soft and natural(ish) looking. I also like how it washes off, this is the only mascara that I’ve tried that actually comes off with just micellar water. I really like it, I’m glad I snagged two tubes.

I’m back on the Buxom Full-On Lip Creams but I’ve always loved these. I don’t know how plumping they are but I like the minty scent, my go-to shades have been a mix of Hot Toddy and Brandi.

I have two new skincare items that have been helping me battle the winter flakiness and redness. I hadn’t tried tula until I stopped in ULTA one day when a rep was there handing out samples and doing demos. tula is a clean beauty line, cruelty free, made in the USA and packed with probiotics. I have been using their glycol toner and gel-cream along with my regular skincare and they are both great. The toner is mild enough to use everyday and has helped to clear up some of my most stubborn dry patches. The gel-cream is similar to an emulsion or serum and adds an additional layer of hydration that my skin has been needing. I am looking forward to checking out more of the brand when I use up my other skincare products.

This next one is a beauty tool really, I dermaplane at home but this is something that I’ve been using to touch up areas when in between full dermaplaning. The Flawless Touch does really well at removing unwanted peach fuzz and stray eyebrow hairs without irritating the skin. I am curious to know how long a single head lasts, I have been using this well over a month and it seems to still be plenty sharp.

I usually steer clear of the holiday scented lotions and body products because most of them are gross but Hempz did an awesome job with this Pumpkin Spice & Vanilla Chai scent. It’s sweet and spicy, I only picked up a couple of the small bottles because it’s pretty potent and I can’t imagine that I will wear it all year round.

My last pick is this tinted brow gel from Colourpop that I picked up when I ran out of my Glossier Boy Brow. This gel is less than half the cost and honestly, just as good. I like natural looking brows, this gel shapes them up just enough and adds enough to tint to look polished.

That’s most everything that I’ve been loving this month – what products have you been loving? Let me know if you have tried any of these!

Blogmas Day 18: My Actual Wish List

Blogmas - 2019

I have been racking my brain for the perfect gift for one of those people who already has everything and is also pretty picky about the things that they own. The thing is, if a person already has everything then they don’t needΒ anything and why am I wasting my time and energy on trying to find a gift for them. I am this person, I have most everything that I need but also, I don’t expect anyone to buy me gifts. In fact, I am terrible at receiving them – it stresses me out. This person in my life would do everyone a favor if they could be more like me and tell people to not get them anything. Now, I gift myself shit all of the time because it’s much less awkward. Here’s what I want for Christmas besides a cleaning service πŸ˜‰

Amilya Regular

TheΒ Starry Eyes to HypnotiseΒ palette is this year’s holiday palette and I cannot believe that it hasn’t sold out yet because it’s so much more appealing than last year’s holiday palette. I don’t love all of her eyeshadow palettes, I don’t think that the quality is the same sometimes, I am hoping that this one isn’t a dud.

I need a gym bag, I keep stuffing all of my clothes into my handbag which is working well enough but I don’t love putting the sweaty clothes back in there. This looks like a solid gym bag without being too huge.

These are by far my favorite gym shoe, the soles aren’t too grippy so you aren’t squeaking all over the place but so comfortable. I don’t think that they are terribly spendy at bout $40 a pair and they come in tons of colors so you can look all cute and coordinated. I just have a plain black pair now, the toe box will tear out if you have that problem which is my only complaint.

I need new pots and pans like yesterday – the ones that I have are probably 15 years old most of the teflon is torn or peeling off in areas. I’ve had a good run with them but I think it’s time to move on. Unfortunately, most of them are so worn that I don’t think that I will be able to donate them. I want a Greenlife set because they are non-stick without the teflon and look at this pretty pink set!

So, what I really want is a television to sit on my kitchen counter but apparently, these aren’t in fashion anymore. I could get a small monitor but that isn’t the same, I figure that I can hook my phone up to this device and still watch stuff while I am doing things around the apartment. I don’t own a television so I watch everything on my phone which works but I’ve dropped it, spilled stuff on it and generally just treated it poorly πŸ˜€

If you have not tried an Instant Pot, I definitely recommend. I love the taste of slow cooked meals but sometimes I don’t plan ahead, Instant Pot makes your food taste deliciously slow cooked but in a fraction of the time. I was gifted a hand me down but look at this teal one.

Instant

I think that’s it, although, I did see some really cute sweater dresses at Target the other day. I just hate shopping for clothes, nothing ever fits the way you think it’s going to. Maybe I will get some new lounge wear since I’m planning on doing a lot of lounging in the coming weeks. What are you wishing for this year? Are you a better gift giver or receiver, let me know and thanks for reading!
